Cut ULEZ fines with predefined geofences from ABAX
Managing ULEZ, LEZ, and CCZ compliance is complex. Learn how ABAX predefined geofences make tracking and fine prevention simple.
If your vehicles regularly enter or exit an Ultra-Low Emission Zone (ULEZ), Low Emission Zone (LEZ), or the London Congestion Charge Zone (CCZ), you’re not alone – and you’re at risk.
In outer London alone, almost 2 million vehicles enter the ULEZ daily, with around 49,000 still non-compliant. That’s nearly 50,000 potential fines every single day.
Keeping your fleet compliant across these ever-expanding environmental zones can feel like chasing a moving target. But ABAX has made it simpler. Our new predefined geofence templates – added to ABAX vehicle packages: ABAX Fleet and ABAX Triplog – help you track ULEZ, LEZ and CCZ activity with just a few clicks.
ULEZ compliance, made effortless
In ABAX Central, the ABAX customer portal, you can now activate ready-made geofences for every ULEZ, LEZ, and the Congestion Charge Zone in the UK – including London, Birmingham, and Glasgow. There’s no need to manually draw boundaries or create custom zones. Simply select a template and assign it to your vehicles.
It’s quick. It’s accurate. And it helps you stay ahead of non-compliance fines, which can reach up to £100 per day for commercial vehicles in the LEZ and £15 per day in the CCZ.
What is a geofence?
A geofence is a virtual perimeter you place around a real-world area – think of it as drawing an invisible fence on the map. Traditionally, Fleet Managers or admins would manually create a geofence by logging into their tracking platform, opening a map, and select around the edges of a zone to outline it. You’d then define rules and alerts for vehicles crossing that boundary. While effective, this manual approach takes time and leaves plenty of room for error.
Why compliance matters for your fleet
The expansion of ULEZ, LEZ, and CCZ zones is already affecting fleet operators in a big way:
Commercial vehicles account for over 1.67 million daily movements in the UK, and most are operated by SMEs.
In Birmingham, the number of polluting commercial vehicles entering the Clean Air Zone dropped from 18,787 to 11,000 per day just one month after implementation.
In London, ULEZ compliance rose from 91% to over 96% within months of the zone expansion.
These stats aren’t just impressive - they show how quickly regulations are changing behaviour. Fleet managers who adopt better tracking tools are already saving money, avoiding fines, and optimising routes more efficiently.
Benefits of predefined geofences
Instant setup – No more drawing maps. Just select and apply.
Live alerts – Know exactly when a vehicle enters or exits a ULEZ, LEZ, or CCZ zone.
Fine prevention – Help drivers avoid restricted zones or plan alternative routes.
Total visibility – View all activity in one place in ABAX Central.
